Although office environments seem like the safest environments to work in, experts in the field disagree. That's because office workers become complacent about workplace safety, and may not keep safety top-of-mind. Statistics show as many as 90 percent of workplace accidents and injuries are caused by unsafe acts by workers. This Video On Demand provides an overview of the risks office workers must negotiate daily, and shows them how to protect themselves in a seemingly safe and benign environment.

Electricity and electrical shock post significant threats in the office setting. Workers learn how to inspect electrical cords and plugs for safety and grounding, to keep liquids away from electrically-operated machines such as computers, copiers, calculators and more. Material Safety Data Sheets and personal protective equipment are addressed in a section on chemical hazards in the office. Proper office attire with safety in mind is covered, with emphasis on appropriate footwear. The video discusses the importance of good housekeeping, fire prevention and safe lifting techniques, as well as the mechanics of the back. Slip, trip and fall prevention is emphasized. The importance of workstation ergonomics in injury prevention is stressed, along with the need to be properly trained on all office equipment. The role of every office worker in remedying or reporting hazards in the workplace is also stressed.
