The Drug-Free Workplace Program: Lose The Drugs, Keep The People

Approximately 40 million people in North America are affected by substance abuse, including the use of illegal drugs, the overuse of alcohol, or the misuse of prescription drugs. The majority of these individuals are employed in a wide range of workplaces. Every company should therefore have a Drug-Free Workplace Policy, such as the one modeled in this training video, in order to address and remediate substance abuse issues in the workplace. This course shows employees how to recognize the warning signs of substance abuse and addiction and take the appropriate action if necessary.

If left untreated, an employee with a substance abuse problem affects not only his or her own employment, but the employment of those around them. This highlights the importance of everyone understanding an organization’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy. After all, substance abuse may lead to other improper behavior, jeopardize employees’ safety, and reduce the overall productivity of the workplace.

Employees learn how to recognize the difference between the “use” of alcohol and drugs and “abuse” of those substances. This course demonstrates the signs, symptoms and indicators of substance abuse. The course also details how some employees unintentionally enable a co-worker’s substance abuse. Learn about the appropriate responses one can take and how to encourage employees to seek assistance voluntarily.
