Overview

Back and neck injuries account for 80 percent of all workplace and non-work injuries. Back injuries can be minor or debilitating, and can even cause death. This Video On Demand training provides a succinct overview of how the back works, the bones and soft tissue of the back, and the most common types of back injuries, from minor muscle sprains to chronic diseases. To help viewers minimize the risk of back injury, the video explains proper workplace ergonomics for desk workers, correct body posture for sitting at desks, standing and lifting. Because improper lifting causes many back injuries, the video concentrates on correct lifting mechanics, load assessment, use of mechanical aids, proper footwork while transporting loads, and correctly lowering loads.

No matter what activities one engages in, from working to playing to sleeping, the back plays a pivotal role. Suggestions for taking care of the back in home and work situations are provided, including proper positioning while sleeping, how to know if your mattress is the right one for your back, the use of orthopedic pillows, and an overview of sports that are easy on the back. Viewers learn how to tend to injuries, including how to know when to apply ice to a back injury, when to apply heat, and when to seek medical attention.

No matter what your job requires, your back is one of your best assets in the workplace and at home. This online training video helps reinforce the need to care for your back to prevent problems from developing. It raises awareness of the stress and strain of everyday life on the main component of our frames, and the problems associated with aging. Every worker, in the office or at home, should view this Video On Demand training to help prevent injury through back safety practices.
