Bloodborne pathogens are disease causing organisms found in human blood and its components. Diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV are transmitted through bloodborne pathogens. In the United States there are over 70,000 new cases of Hepatitis B reported each year, and it is believed there are more than three million carriers of Hepatitis C. This online training video explains how exposure to bloodborne pathogens occurs and what first responders should do to protect themselves.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates each year there are more than 500,000 injuries from contaminated sharps. This course explains what steps to take if accidental exposure occurs through needle sticks, spills, or blood leakage. Viewers learn about the Exposure Control Plan, proper disposal of contaminated material, housekeeping practices and personal protective equipment. The video demonstrates how accidental exposures occur and what to do post-exposure.
Watch this safety training video to learn how to protect yourself and others from exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
