Overview

Over one million people are currently infected with HIV in the United States and more than 70,000 new cases of hepatitis B are diagnosed every year. These diseases cause serious illness and death. This online video training teaches employees how to prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens in an industrial workplace.

The video demonstrates how basic safety measures can prevent infection and save lives. These safety measures include following OSHA requirements for handling infectious materials, vaccinations, using personal protection equipment and utilizing good housekeeping practices. The video explains OSHA labeling requirements for potentially infectious regulated waste such as bandages, blood and needles. The online course discusses the procedures necessary for accidental exposure. These procedures encompass initial clean up, incident reporting, medical care and follow up.

The video shows employees how to protect themselves and others by properly handling potentially infectious materials. This video helps employers and employees reduce health hazards and exposure to bloodborne pathogens by using work practices to create a safer workplace.
