Hazardous materials are substances capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, or property. Each day in the U.S. more than 800,000 shipments contain hazardous materials are sent. As such, it is critical individuals transporting them know as much as they can about both the substances themselves and about how to deal with them should an emergency arise. The U.S. Department of Transportation has development a set of materials specifically addressing the transportation of hazardous materials, and you will learn about them through this Video On Demand.

These regulations, located in 49 CFR Parts 100-185, are also known as the Hazardous Materials Regulations, or HMR. These HazMat regulations contain include the classes of hazardous substances, as well as how to properly label, load, ship, and unload them.
