Overview

This video training course teaches viewers where to look for safety information needed for working with hazardous materials or responding to a hazardous material emergency. The OSHA instituted Hazard Communication Standard requires all relevant information to be included in the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

This video teaches viewers about ANSI Standard Z400.1, created by ANSI and the Chemical Manufacturers Association, which includes all relevant handling and emergency information organized into a standard accessible format. Viewers learn how to read an ANSI MSDS, and understand how the information is organized and how to quickly find the necessary information in an emergency.

Every chemical found in the workplace has its own hazards, safety protocols, and emergency procedures. Knowing where to find chemical-specific information to safely handle an emergency situation limits the personnel injury and workplace damage caused when an emergency occurs. Employees educating in reading and understanding MSDS help to keep the workplace safe, even when a hazardous materials emergency occurs.
