Overview

Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic gas that can be a residual contaminant of certain petroleum products and decomposing organic materials. This poisonous gas is extremely toxic and poses a risk to maritime workers at levels as low as 10 parts per million. This video training explains the six strategies to work safely around hydrogen sulfide gas.

By watching this video training, maritime industry personnel will be able to recognize the hazards of working in an environment with the potential for hydrogen sulfide exposure, to identify the practices, procedures and equipment needed to safely work around the substance and understand how engineering controls like ventilation can reduce the hazards of working around this gas.

The training discusses how to use self-contained breathing apparatus for respiratory protection and alerts the viewer about how to use three types of gas detection equipment to determine permissible exposure levels. Additionally, viewers learn how to formulate safe work practices as well as an emergency response plan to ensure the rapid rescue of exposed personnel and ensure the safety of responders.
