Overview

This video illustrates how to properly rig, hitch and lift a load on a crane. OSHA regulations, updated in August 2010, are based on the latest technology and equipment. Workers must understand how to correctly select the equipment to safely rig a load.

Prior to workers even touching the crane, they must become familiar with the hand signals used to communicate with the crane operator. The video demonstrates each hand signal. There are several types of slings, the strongest being chained and the most flexible one being made of synthetic fibers. This online training video demonstrates what to look for when selecting and inspecting a sling.

Another point discussed in the video is how to select a hitch for your equipment. It is important for the sling and hitch to comparable so they can work together to lift the equipment. Workers must know the capacity of their equipment in order to select the correct the type of sling and hitch. Workers should ask their supervisor for the Sling Angle Chart, this chart determines the weight and how to calculate the capacity of the hitch and slings.

This video provides great detail about safety measure riggers should use to prevent accidents and injuries when moving a load. Prepare workers with the skills needed to safely and effectively get their job done by providing them with this online training video.
