Overview

Backing a single trailer, or a double with a semi attachment, is probably the most dangerous, intricate, and time consuming set of maneuvers a big rig driver can undertake. Sometimes these drivers have to perform this task multiple times per day, and multiple days per week. Big rig backing is something that, in order to master, has to be practiced continuously; no amount of time spent driving on the road helps you when it comes time to back your trailer. You should know the dimensions of your trailer by heart, as well as the profiles of different kinds of trailers, including flatbeds and dump boxes. This Video On Demand training helps demonstrate techniques so you can master safe backing.

In addition, this training lesson teaches you special backing maneuvers, and shows you special situations you may face while backing your trailer. Ultimately, backing is not the only technique you to learn; coupling and uncoupling your trailer must be mastered as well. Utilize the information presented here and learn these techniques to be well on your way to mastering the safe backing of tractor trailer rigs.
