Thirty-four percent of all injuries resulting in lost work days are due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This online training discusses ergonomics that help minimize the risk of such problems, as well as the signs and symptoms of MSDs. Ergonomic risk factors are discussed, along with engineering controls, administrative controls such as management policies and practices to reduce injuries, and personal protective equipment. The video stresses the importance of employees reporting MSD-related symptoms to employers immediately to minimize the risk of further injury. The importance of maintaining a neutral posture and neutral positions for the wrists, arms, back, and neck is explained. Additionally, safe lifting and carrying techniques, team lifting and mechanical lifting aids are discussed and depicted.
This video is appropriate for anyone in an industrial setting, as well as those working in offices, because everyone is subject to tasks with the potential to result in MSDs. Providing training is an administrative control measure showing employees you are concerned with their wellbeing and want to help protect their health and safety.
