Cranes usually make life on a construction job much easier, lifting heavy loads quickly and safely. An increase in crane accidents caused OSHA to update regulations relating to crane operation, certification of operators and signalers, and restrictions on maintenance crews. New rules also govern how closely cranes can operate to electrical lines and crane assembly and disassembly. This Video On Demand prepares construction workers to safely work with cranes and adhere to regulations.
Boom cranes are the primary focus of this video training. Everything from pre-use inspection, to set-up, load preparation, rigging, lifting, moving and landing the load is explained. Viewers are reminded to check ground conditions, level the outriggers, inspect the hook and rigging, calculate the total load weight, and check the vehicle's load limit prior to operation. Hand signals, vital to communicating on the job, are demonstrated in the video.
It would be impossible to accomplish most construction jobs without using a crane, but cranes can be dangerous and their misuse can cause property damage, severe personal injury or death. This video provides a safety refresher course for veteran crane operators, and instills in new operators the importance of developing good safety habits and using them every day.
