Forklift: Powered Industrial Truck Safety

Used safely, industrial trucks, including forklifts, can easily move loads of massive weight, but when truck drivers are careless or distracted, powered industrial trucks have the potential to be deadly. This Video On Demand provides an overview of safe operating procedures for industrial trucks powered by gas, electricity and propane, counterweighted and standard vehicles as well as walk-behind hand trucks. Viewers are shown the importance of conducting pre-use safety inspections, reading the operator’s manual to understand the lift capacity of the vehicle, recognizing the vehicle's stability triangle, and safe loading, lifting, driving and landing procedures.

Drivers learn how to prevent vehicles from tipping over, and how to protect themselves if a tip is unavoidable. They are shown how to protect their co-workers and other industrial truck drivers on the job site. Do’s and don’ts for lifting and transporting loads are explained, including when a forklift must be driven in reverse. The three-point vehicle mount is explained, and how to safely shut down and secure the truck.

Improper use of industrial trucks can damage loads and facilities, as well as risk the lives of the driver and other employees. This training video reinforces proper safety measures every driver must take to ensure the equipment is being operated in the safest manner possible.
