Forklift Safety: Real Accidents, Real Stories

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), someone is killed every three days by a forklift accident, resulting in family trauma and expensive costs to companies. Forklift accidents can be caused by overloading the machine, lack of maintenance, and driver errors. This online course trains forklift operators how to prevent injuries to themselves and those working around them.

During this forklift safety training video, there are interviews featuring Hal Phillips, a forklift operator, and Casey Randall, a warehouses manager, who recount a near-fatal incident that occurred during a busy day at work. Because of Hal not being properly trained and prepared to operate a forklift, Casey has suffered severe nerve damage to her legs and uses a wheelchair. Their unfortunate, real life story is living proof of the importance of proper OSHA safety training, and theirs is an example all forklift operators need to learn from. This incident could happen in any warehouse—and it could have been avoided with proper forklift safety training.

Even pedestrians can be involved in forklift incidents—nearly 100 pedestrian deaths and 20,000 injuries a year occur from forklift accidents. Pedestrians need to be on alert around machinery, but forklift operators are responsible for safely operating a forklift when pedestrians are nearby. This online forklift safety training course covers how forklift operators can safely use forklifts to safely get the job done, while preventing injury to themselves and those around them.
