This training video is the first in a five part series to educate emergency responders on how best to respond to incidents that include hazardous materials. Emergency Responders are trained to protect people, property and the environment. Hazardous materials situations require special training and equipment. OSHA and NFPA have created a list of competencies required to protect emergency responders in hazardous materials situations.
The first step in properly responding to an emergency situation is to assess the situation. This video explains the various markings and where to find them to determine what type(s) of hazardous materials may be involved. It also lists the type of information needed to pass on to the appropriate secondary responders.
Learning how to safely assess a hazardous materials situation will help first responders to better protect themselves and the community they serve.
