Overview

According to the FBI, most incidents of domestic terrorism involve explosives called IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). Over 60% of American military deaths in Iraq occurred due to Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs). These devices have advanced over the years; therefore, it is crucial for emergency responders to know how IEDs are made, how to safely control locations containing explosives, and how to stabilize the chaos in cases of detonation.

Aside from the composition and components of IEDs, this online training course focuses on pre-detonation and post-detonation responses. These responses are utterly critical to the safety of the responders and other people in the area. Responders learn how to evacuate the area according to the bomb threat standoff distances, which are recommended by the National Counterterrorism Center.

Use this course to stress the importance of saving lives by safely recognizing and analyzing IED scenes and stabilizing the surrounding areas. Innocent people could be at risk if emergency responders are not properly equipped with IED training.
