Good Manufacturing Practices in the Food Industry

Food processing and handling facilities have a responsibility to ensure food safety. This month we released a two-part course about the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations regarding Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to reduce the risk of contamination of food products. Each part of this course tackles several sections of the FDA regulation. “Good Manufacturing Practices in the Food Industry Part 1” covers some basics of how GMPs affect the safety and quality of food products, as well as the personnel, plant and grounds, and sanitary operations sections of the FDA regulation.
The second course, “Good Manufacturing Practices in the Food Industry Part 2,” covers more processes and controls to protect food from contamination. It also covers the last four sections of the GMP regulation, which includes sanitary facilities and controls, equipment and utensils, manufacturing processes and controls, and transportation and warehousing.
