Proximity Bias Prevention

Creating unconscious preferences for those who do not work close to us can become problematic among colleagues. “Proximity bias” is not a common term, but when it occurs it can negatively impact a workforce. For instance, it causes fewer opportunities for promotions of remote workers, or on-site employees are sometimes rated higher than remote workers. This training helps team members become more aware of proximity bias and how it impacts everyone.

This training first defines proximity bias and gives examples for further understanding. Then, viewers learn how organizations can mitigate these effects by providing opportunities for everyone to participate. The course also provides ways in which individuals can prevent proximity bias such as looking for ways to meet up with your colleagues face to face.

Proximity bias can be problematic when it comes to building workplace relationships with employees. Favoring people or ideas that are physically close to us impacts individuals and organizations. This online training shows what you can do to mitigate the negative effects to foster a more equitable workplace.
