Overview

Lockout/tagout is a safety protocol having to do with the maintenance and service of machinery at your workplace. It primarily helps to prevent accidental restarts and releases of hazardous energy. It has a number of steps workers must follow in order to fully create a safe work environment. This lockout/tagout training video provides learners with the steps of lockout/tagout, while explaining the difference between authorized and affected employees, and the different devices to use in the lockout/tagout process.

Affected employees do not service the machines. Instead, that role falls to authorized employees. This does not mean affected employees are not involved in the servicing process; they need to part of the process as they are the ones actually working on the machines you will be servicing. Communication is integral for creating a safe work environment. After all, each machine may have a number of energy sources posing risks to employees. While energy sources may range from electric to hydraulic, each unique source may need a unique lockout/tagout device. Learn which devices to use and when through this video.

While the lockout/tagout process helps to reduce the potential for danger at the workplace, safety does not stop when the maintenance does. This lesson will also educate you on the proper steps for the safe startup of the machines you serviced. Utilize this online video training to help create a safer work environment for both you and those around you.
