HAZWOPER: Medical Surveillance Program

This online training video shows workers how adhering to Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response, or HAZWOPER, medical surveillance programs protects them and their loved ones from the dangers of hazardous material contamination.

The Video On Demand demonstrates how routine health exams and testing for workers who regularly use respirators, are members of a hazardous material emergency response team or have health problems as a result of being overexposed to hazardous substances can safeguard against spreading contamination and ensuring continued long-term health.

The video discusses the five types of examinations in a medical surveillance program: pre-employment, periodic, termination or reassignment, emergency and additional. When properly administered these examinations, coupled with good record keeping, help ensure the risks posed to those affected workers are minimized, if not eliminated.
