Laboratory Safety: Safe Handling of Laboratory Glassware

The glass containers and instruments used in laboratories are potentially hazardous. This online training video teaches lab workers how to safely handle glassware.

This course shows the importance of using gloves, goggles, and in some instances a face mask while working in a lab. Protective gloves should be cut resistant, and insulated gloves should be used when handling hot or extremely cold glass. Viewers learn most glassware-related accidents happen during cleanup and are shown how to prevent them. Safe practices are given and include avoiding the use of chromic acid and other caustic agents for cleaning. Glassware should be properly stored by keeping it away from shelf edges and padding instruments kept in drawers.
