Overview

Cal/OSHA Preventing Slips, Trips, And Falls

Slipping or tripping may seem like a minor risk of injury when compared to some of the other hazards you face on the job. However, in 2015, California OSHA reported there were more than 20,000 injuries caused by slips, trips, and falls. This number accounted for over 20% of the total injuries reported, and even a small fall may have serious consequences. Identifying and correcting fall hazards, along with paying attention to our paths of travel, can prevent these injuries and save lives. Learn how significant fall risks are, and how to prevent them, through this Preventing Slips, Trips, And Falls training video on California OSHA fall prevention practices.

Wet and slippery floors, cluttered work areas, extension cords, improper footwear, running, and not paying attention are all slip, trip and fall hazards. People fall when they lose their balance, or when one’s center of gravity shifts beyond its base of support. There are three main factors that contribute to a loss of balance: gravity, friction, and momentum. To prevent falls, we must control these three main factors. This course demonstrates how falls occur, how to prevent them by correcting slip and trip hazards and utilizing other safe work practices.

Utilize the materials provided in this training lesson and learn how to better protect yourself from slips, trips, and falls, while complying with California OSHA safety regulations.
