Overview

While manufacturing creates goods, some people cannot live without, the manufacturing process can also create hazardous substances posing serious health risks for anyone coming into contact with them. To address the issue of municipal and industrial waste, the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, developed rules and guidelines in the Resource Conservation Recovery Act of 1976, also known as RCRA. These regulations bestow the EPA with the authority to control hazardous waste from creation to disposal. This course explains the key components of these regulations you must know to safely interact with hazardous waste.

For example, as you are involved in the handling and storage of hazardous waste, your job should provide specified training in order to ensure you know and understand how to comply with RCRA guidelines. This training video explains the proper classifications and identification of wastes, safe work practices for their handling, hazardous waste generator categories, bonding and grounding techniques, waste container labeling, and more. It also covers the potential health risks you may face as a result of exposure to hazardous waste. All of this information is critical for your safety, as well as the safety of those around you.

At least for now, so long as we manufacture goods, we also manufacture hazardous waste. If you work in an industry where you interact with hazardous waste, you must know how to work safely with these potentially life-threatening substances. Utilize the information presented here and gain a better understanding of RCRA regulations, and therefore a better appreciation of how to stay safe around hazardous waste.
