Silica Safety in Industrial and Construction Environments

Manufacturing and construction workers are exposed to many materials containing crystalline silica. When cutting or grinding occurs, crystalline silica becomes a dust people can inhale. Referred to as respirable crystalline silica, this silica dust threatens the health of anyone who breathes it.

This course shows construction and manufacturing employees the health hazards associated with respirable crystalline silica and spotlights the guidelines provided in “Table 1” in OSHA’s Silica Standard for Construction for controlling silica dust on their job sites. This training enables employees to recognize silica hazards in their work areas, and the best practices to minimize exposure throughout the facility or job site.

Offer this course so employees learn where crystalline silica can be encountered in the workplace, the health hazards associated with it, and how they can protect themselves and their co-workers from experiencing the health problems that can occur when it is inhaled.
