Work Zone Safety

From repaving streets to trimming vegetation, construction workers perform a number of different tasks on highways, city streets, and country roads every day. These tasks place workers, as well as the people around them, at risk. In fact, thousands of workers, as well as drivers, passengers, and pedestrians, are killed or injured in work zone accidents each year. Through this training lesson, workers learn about the government regulations designed to prevent these accidents, as well as the equipment and procedures used to control traffic around a work area.

To protect individuals from work zone accidents, contractors utilize a process called “traffic control,” and the Federal Highway Administration has established specific standards regarding the creation and maintenance of safe traffic control zones around a work site. This course explains these regulations, as well as the different types of equipment and procedures workers use to safely guide vehicles and pedestrians around their work sites, all of which are critical in preventing injuries and fatalities.

Working on roadways is naturally dangerous, but those dangers are multiplied when the work is performed at night. Both workers and drivers must take special care at night, and this work zone safety training provides specific guidance regarding night work.

Utilize the materials provided here and understand what you can do to keep you, and those around you, safe in your work zone.
