Overview

DOT: HAZMAT: Security Awareness

The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires companies that transport hazardous materials to provide security awareness training to all HAZMAT employees. Training is critical since the workers can be the first line of defense in preventing an attack. This online course teaches employees how following DOT regulations can prevent dangerous substances from falling into the wrong hands.

HAZMAT workers are shown what types of security risks exist with these materials, as well as how to recognize and eliminate threats. They will see how internal security, both physical and virtual, plays a role in keeping the materials and facility safe from a breach.

Also, the video demonstrates how to safely store, transport, and receive hazardous materials. HAZMAT workers need to be aware of where the materials are going and to whom they are being delivered. Container and vehicle checks are critical anytime the materials are delivered and received.

By understanding the types of terrorist threats and by reporting situations immediately, workers can help protect themselves and their community from an attack.
