Sexual harassment is illegal in New York, and workers, employed at any size organization, are protected under state and federal laws. This online training course teaches employees what types of actions are considered to be sexual harassment, what can be done to protect oneself and others from it, and how to prevent workplace harassment from occurring.
Viewers are taught how to recognize two types of sexual harassment. One type, Quid Pro Quo, happens when a manager or supervisor either offers or prevents job benefits and/or promotions based on sexual favors. The other type, a Hostile Environment, is harassment occurring between managers, a manager and employee, co-workers, or employees and non-employees who work in the same workplace. This kind of harassment includes actions that are sexual in nature such as physical contact, intimidation, jokes, and sexually explicit texts and emails.
Viewers also learn how to handle instances of sexual harassment in the workplace. Managers and supervisors are required to investigate all reports of harassment. Policies are in place to protect employees as well as to correct any losses that may have resulted from being harassed, such as not receiving a promotion or pay raise, or missing work on account of the harassment.
